Georgia High School Association - Cross Country
United States - Cross Country
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) administers the Georgia high school cross country championship programme for boys and girls. The programme provides competition dates, area assignments, a coaches handbook, rules and procedures, sectional-meet information, state-meet directors, rankings, records, results and past-champion resources. In the 2026–27 season, practice may begin on 27 July, the first meet may be held from 10 August, the maximum is ten competition dates for varsity athletes, sectionals are held on 31 October and the state championship is on 6–7 November. The 2026 GHSA State Cross Country Championships presented by Atlanta Track Club take place at the Carrollton Course at Carrollton High School. Friday races cover 4A, 5A and Private 2A–4A divisions; Saturday races cover 6A, 2A, 1A, 7A and 3A divisions, with separate boys’ and girls’ races. Cross country is a team championship sport for boys and girls across GHSA classifications, with races approximately three miles or five kilometres. Meets are governed by the National Federation Track and Field and Cross Country Rule Book together with GHSA exceptions. The association limits teams to ten competition dates outside sectional and state events, permits split squads within that limit and requires GHSA Executive Director approval for meets involving eight or more schools. Qualifying sectional hosts are published by class and regional grouping, and state results are made available through MileSplitGA.
