Georgia High School Association - Flag Football

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) administers girls’ flag football as a late-fall state championship programme. The programme publishes area assignments, a rule book, rules and procedures, schedules, scores, Post Season Rankings and playoff brackets. For 2026–27, practice may begin on 7 September, competition on 14 September and the last play date is 14 November. The state tournament has first and second rounds on 18 November, quarterfinals on 1 December, semifinals on 3 December and the Flag Football State Championship presented by Alfa Insurance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on 8 December. Five divisions have scheduled championship games that day. GHSA classifies the sport on an Area basis, with eight areas in each of five divisions; classification and geography determine area and division placement. Schools indicate intent to participate by 1 March, may play a maximum of 20 varsity and 14 sub-varsity games outside the state tournament, and may play no more than two games on a playing date. Each area determines advancing teams, while the state tournament uses seeded hosting through the semifinal round and a neutral championship site. The association requires schedules, rosters and results to be maintained in MaxPreps for programme administration and statewide standings. The 2026 rule materials require soft-shell protective headgear or headbands in sanctioned competition and prescribe contrasting three-flag belts and uniform visibility requirements.
