The South Atlantic Conference administers NCAA Division II American football in the southeastern United States. Formed in 1975 as the football-only SAC-8, the conference became a multi-sport league in 1989 while retaining football as a core championship programme. Newberry College won the 2025 South Atlantic Conference title, defeating Carson-Newman 28–21 and finishing 8–1 in conference play; the victory was Newberry’s third SAC football championship in five seasons and secured an NCAA Division II playoff berth. The official conference platform provides football schedules, results, standings and championship history. In the early stages of the 2026 season, Mars Hill and Anderson were level at 3–0 in SAC play, with Carson-Newman, Newberry and Tusculum following. The conference is headquartered in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
